Pub and Brewery News - April 2018

Monday 9 April 2018

The following pub and brewery news was reported at the Branch Committee Meeting on Monday 9th April 2018.

Pub News

The Walrus is confirmed as being open; the Two Trees is closed, as is the Miller & Carter Steakhouse (for refurbishment). The Ford Inn, Ford; the Herbert Hotel, Keyham; the Duchy of Cornwall, Stonehouse; the Queens Dock Inn & Three Ferrets, Morice Town, no longer serve real ale. The Newmarket Inn, City Centre, has had a refurbishment and now only has two real ales, although none were available on a recent visit. The Trout 'N' Tipple, Tavistock, recently had South Hams Pandamonium and Summerskills Devon Dew on sale, which is unusual for the area. There are new tenants in the West Hoe, The Hoe – we would like to wish them all the very best in their new venture!

The following pubs were sold to those pub companies indicated, by Punch Taverns in March 2018, although the licensees will probably not know about it!!!

Brewery News

Sadly, Paul and Joanna have stopped all brewing at Moorstone for the foreseeable future. Further details will be added when known.

Roam Brewing Co, formally Tavy Ales, have been awarded Gold in the CAMRA Champion Beer Of Britain, regional heat, for Tavy Porter. Pictured on the left is Brewery Liaison Officer, Andrew Richardson of Plymouth CAMRA branch, presenting Jon (centre) and Don with their award at the SIBA Tucker's Malting Beer festival in April 2018.

Summerskills Brewery, of Billacombe, have scooped two Bronze Awards recently, also in the CAMRA Champion Beer Of Britain Competition, regional heats, for Bolt Head (in the Strong Bitter category) and also for Indiana's Bones (in the Old Ale & Strong Mild category). In the picture on the right, Brewery Liaison Officer, Lee Norton (pictured left, of Plymouth CAMRA branch), presented Norman, owner of Summerskills, with both awards at the SIBA Tucker's Malting Beer Festival in April 2018.

Many congratulations to Jon, and all at Roam Brewing Co, and to Norman, and all at Summerskills Brewery !
